2026 SML SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL – SONGWRITER APPLICATION

We’re now accepting applications for the 2026 SML Songwriters Festival at Smith Mountain Lake. This is your chance to showcase your original music to a live audience, connect with fellow artists, and be part of one of the region’s premier music events.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Songwriters who are consistently writing, releasing new music, and building their careers in the industry

Songwriters who are actively involved to making their mark in the music community

Songwriters with an established online presence, including social media (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc) and a dedicated website
WHAT’S INCLUDED:

Lodging with a welcoming host family at beautiful Smith Mountain Lake

Festival transportation provided to and from venues as needed

Featured promotion on festival social media channels to spotlight participating songwriters

Opportunities to sell merchandise and connect with fans during your set

Time to relax and enjoy all that the lake and surrounding area have to offer
- Professional sound, stools, and stage cover at all venues, with production by Sounddawgs Production LLC

Thursday, June 11, 2026
The festival kicks off with an exclusive, invitation-only VIP Party and dinner. Songwriters are encouraged to join this relaxed, fun meet-and-greet event, where the stage will be set for open rounds and great music.

Friday, June 12 – Saturday, June 13, 2026
Festival events run from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening. Staging and sound equipment will accommodate 3–4 songwriters per 90-minute set, with artists typically performing 1–2 sets per day. There will also be plenty of free time to enjoy the lake, including boating, swimming, exploring the area, visiting various venues, or simply relaxing on the docks.

Sunday, June 14, 2026
The festival concludes with a grand finale event featuring special entertainment (TBA), silent and live auctions, and continued songwriter rounds. Songwriters are encouraged to stay for this celebration, with performance sets scheduled to accommodate travel plans. (It’s hard to leave Smith Mountain Lake—most attendees linger to enjoy every last moment!)
